座落于艾斯凯奇港边偏远的海湾中的卡尔里拉，自1846年成立后便是一颗隐秘在众多艾雷酒庄中的珍宝。尽管不易寻访，神秘的卡尔里拉麦芽威士忌还是被众多艾雷麦芽威士忌的仰慕者所盛赞。卡尔里拉比邻南邦海湾旁，亦即其调配用水的来源，海洋不但提供其冷却用水，且造就了平衡且清新的风味――相较于其他海岛型麦芽威士忌更为淡的酒液，但同时拥有典型的泥炭烟熏风味。
酒厂是由海柯特亨得森(Hector Henderson)于1846年建立的，建造酒厂厂房和职工宿舍的材料是周围山上的大石块。酒厂有它自己的码头，用火车把原材料运到厂里，再用蒸汽式轮船把威士忌运出去，这种运货方式一直维持了很久。1927年酒业有限公司获得了卡尔里拉的控股权，并买下了波布罗克(Pibroch)火车头。1974年酒厂进行了扩建，蒸馏器的数量从2台增加到了3台。
Established in 1846 on the coast near Port Askaig, by Hector Henderson. Caol Ila means “Sound of Islay” in Gaelic. Waterfall supplied power for barley hoists and pressure for fire hydrants. “Puffers” like M.V. Pibroch brought barley and took away casks by sea for over 100 years. Families have worked here for generations.
